Calcutta (aka Kolkata) - a vivid city rendered in elegantly striking contrasts. It is a city which is a bit like everywhere and then again nothing like anywhere! And like we love to say, it is a manifestation of the country India. You cannot average it out. Just like you cannot say – “Oh! I went to India and it was OKAY!” – you cannot “average” Calcutta out.

Calcutta Photo Tours is a love-child of its founder and owner Manjit Singh Hoonjan’s love for the city and his passion for photography. And the fact that Manjit is both an explorer and a photographer means that you can do either when you sign up for a tour with us. Explore and photograph this amazing city. Our tours are NOT limited to photographers. We have tours for everyone - heritage, history, cultural and of course photography tours.

We are here to bring out the city before you as never before, in all its tastes and colours, striking all chords of life that churn up in the city.

It is the first photo tour company in Calcutta. The company has been covered in many international newspapers like The Guardian, UK; The Telegraph, UK and The Wall Street Journal amongst others.

The Calcutta Photo Tours Story

Manjit Singh Hoonjan is a photographer, living and creating in Calcutta, India. The origin of his passion for photography is the deep love and connection that he feels for the city: its unique architecture, vibrant markets, colourful urban landscapes and magical ambience which turn Calcutta into a living and breathing photographer's heaven.

He believes that the cultural richness, heritage and urban narrative of Calcutta, in general, could not be the same without the people living here. That is why a major part of his photography is focused on the inhabitants of Calcutta and is dedicated to them.

His photos were published in several magazines, including National Geographic, Financial Times U.K.’s Magazine (How To Spend It), Outlook, Outlook Traveller, Elle Décor (India), Esquire (Malaysia), Man’s World, Graphiti (The Telegraph, Calcutta) as well as Lonely Planet. He has been published in a few collectives online too.

He has assisted many photographers in Calcutta, notable amongst them, Steve McCurry.

His photographs of the idol makers colony (Kumortuli) and the Durga Puja Festival were showcased in London in August-September 2018 as part of the Totally Thames Festival which was spearheaded by the West Bengal Tourism Department.
